Writer's Workshop

It’s October 4.
Today is “World Pet Day.”  What do you think is the most popular or common pet in the whole world?
Trivial Fact of the Day:  If you’re of average weight, multiply your weight by .02—that’s probably how much your brain weighs.
Interesting Quote of the Day:  “A person who won’t read has no advantage over someone who can’t read.” --Mark Twain (American author)
Vocabulary Word of the Day:  foil (verb) – This word—when it’s a verb, not a noun—means to defeat or frustrate.  What are three ways to foil an enemy’s attempt to capture you?
 What are we doing?
By the end of class, we will know conjunctions (BOYFANS) and how to use them correctly; how to correct sentences; using journal format, analyze and explain a famous quote; create a metaphor poem using 10 comparisons.
When you have finished reading this blog, get your Reader/Writer Notebook. Using the Writer notebook, turn to the journal section. Write the quote from Mark Twain at the top of the page.  In paragraph form, explain what the differences are between a person who can't read and a person won't read. How would a person's life be different if they couldn't read  vs. a person who chooses not to read?
